The pool was in bad shape when we bought the house in 2007. We had done our best to keep it usable. The past two years became a battle of Man vs. Algae. And the algae always won. Jewels decided we were perfectly capable of draining, acid washing, patching, and plastering the pool ourselves. Perfectly capable... Turns out we are capable, but stupid. There is a a reason pool owners gladly spend thousands of dollars to pay others to complete this task.
We stopped putting chemicals in the pool at Christmas - no sense wasting money there - so it was solid green by the time we started this project. The frogs thought is was their nightclub - SOOO LOUD.
While the pool was draining, Jewels put on his cool marshmallow suit and energetically began acid washing. (We were so young and naive at this point) Braden joined the fun too!
The test spot showed an incredible difference. The acid wash made such a difference.
The shop vac proved to be a valuable tool - sucking up the residual sludge that refused to drain!
