First Day of School - Update

The day went well for both kids. Jewels took them. He said the boy was little big-eyed until more children "his size" showed up. He walked into class saying "hola!" The big excitement when I picked him up - he got a sticker and he announced he DID NOT get in trouble.

#1 child was very excited to see her friends. She came home with homework - not too much. She loves her teacher.

Both children came home with a mountain of forms for me to fill out. It was odd not having Freida at the school. She retired last May. I'm hoping she will remain in the "gossip" loop so I can hear inside scoop! :)

First Day of School!

It was a photo op this morning. Child #2 starts kindergarten today. #1 is now a big forth grader. It was difficult for all of us to get up early. I'm sure everyone will be ready for bed tonight!

Base Cabinet Install

Bill and Jewels placed all of the lower cabinets in their positions last week. Kenneth helped with the leveling and install on Saturday. Our house is 50 years old so leveling was a challenge at times. We *think* we found a granite guy. My job this week is approve slabs and order the range.

Chris is the man!

Chris, the floor guy, came last Thursday and installed the toe molding in the kitchen and oldest daughter's room.

Them there cabinets have legs...

Bill and Jewels worked on cabinets legs this evening. Just like everything else IKEA, leg installation is almost idiot proof. The base cabinets are looking great!!!!

Refrigerator and Dishwashers

Sears delivered our refrigerator and dishwashers today! The dishwashers will be installed when the cabinets are in place. The refrigerator is plugged in and making ice. The range and vent hood will be ordered through my company (with a significant discount).

Kitchen Work

We purchased the bottom cabinets from IKEA on Thursday. We need to get the cabinets in place so our electrician can finish his job. There is bunches of prep work that the kitchen needs before the cabinets are placed for counter tops. The wall base and shoe molding has to be put down because the cabinets will be on legs with out a toekick. Jewels took Friday off and started the task. He has put down all put one piece of base and most of the door casings - it looks great. I'm going to try and sweet talk Chris - the awesome floor guy - to come out this week and put down the shoe molding in the kitchen only (and maybe the #1 child bedroom, too!). Once that is in place the cabinets are good to stay put.

First Child Bedroom

This has been a very busy house work week for Jewels. He's home this week (a sandwich between two business trips). One task completed: #1 child's bedroom is finished. Well, sort of...is anything ever really "finished"? ALL of the trim is up, caulked, puttied, and has one coat of paint. What the room is lacking: a good floor cleaning (Keri), final coat trim paint (Jewels), wall paint touch ups (anyone who is good with a roller and brush), and closet organization.

They're Going Back (do, do do, do) to Abu Dhabi...

Jewels arrived home in time to visit with our wonderful friends, Curtis and Corinne (and their two boys) Friday night. Curtis teaches at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi. We saw the foursome last right before their big move to Arabia two years ago. Corinne and I met years ago (18 or 17 years ago - hardly seems possible!!!) while working at Cloth World. We were all fast friends. Jewels and I (and our kids) had a blast catching up. Have a great and safe trip back home guys!!!

Water Baby

The little girl likes the pool. Here are a few pictures from her last swim...

Door Casings

Kenneth did some volunteer work at the house last Saturday. He and Jewels added the door casings to all of the bedrooms and baths. Jewels has been out of town for the last two weeks. He is anxious to get back into town and start work (again!).

Hardwood Floors - After!

The floors are beautiful!
