The Foundation is Finished!!!
One more hurdle gone! Dawson Foundation Repair worked all day in the drizzle. I can now walk in the master bedroom without falling to the back corner. Next big task - THE ROOF. Starfish Roofing is set to de-roof then re-roof the house next Tuesday. On Monday, Don's Tree Service is removing the unwanted trees - front chicken tree, a trash tree close to the pool and a rather young tree that will do severe damage to the new foundation work if left alone. Jewels is taking Monday off to finish the fascia.

What's Wrong With This?
This is a sticker on the 30' dumpster in the driveway (it was delivered with graffiti). Now, I'm not a great speller, but I DO KNOW how to use the spell check function!

Fascia
Fascia boards were the task this weekend. Jewels arrived home late Friday after being gone most of the week on business. Saturday was tagged as the day to start and (hopefully) complete the fascia. We woke to wet conditions. Fortunately, the hard rain stopped by mid morning, but the mud was horrible (the electricians made a muddy mess last weekend and the sun has not shone in the area for days). By the end of the day Jewels, Andy and Bill were exhausted. Items completed: sawed the soffit boards by an inch (the entire perimeter of the house), installed Jewels’ new fangled soffit vent on all but bedroom side, installed Hardie Board fascia on half of the back and utility side. Work began again bright and early Sunday morning. The sun was out ALL DAY!!! Jewels completed the soffit vent installation and front fascia. The work stopped mid afternoon so Jewels could clean up, pack and go to the airport for another week long business trip. We were hoping to have the new roof put on at the end of this week, but will put it off a few days. The fascia boards have to be installed before the roof.

The demolition part of the fix up is almost complete. The foundation needs to be completed before any major work can begin. They are scheduled to jack-up the house on Tuesday. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain, again! Once the foundation is done the roof goes on. Then the interior redo can begin.

Locks of Love (again, nothing to do with the house)
Our oldest child cut her hair for Locks of Love a few weeks ago. She started growing her hair out 2 years ago when a classmate had to go through chemo. She donated her hair in honor of her classmate and a close family friend who both are doing great!

It's Electrifying!
Over the weekend Logo Electrical moved the overhead lines underground, moved and replaced the breaker box and moved the electric meter.
The visual improvement is incredible. Before the backyard was cut in two by the wires running from the back utility lines to the weather head. It now looks so open. (Please ignore the ugly pool fence. I promise it will change!)
Center Point FINALLY got the order right and restored power today. Night work can continue!

Window Installation 101...
We realized after removing the carpet that the house was built as a three bedroom. That explains the light fixtures not being centered in the room and odd window placement. Also, one room does not have a closet (it will after Jewels is done). Below is an example of a BAD window addition.

Talked to the city inspectors. They agree with the premise of (2) 2x12 beams with joist hangers for the flush beams. All my spans are less than 12' wide. Request that I also glue and use plywood filler between beams. Weather is still affecting electrician- now he is suppose to be on site tomorrow, Saturday.
Dad, Bill and I took the night off. Went to the hockey game with Keri and the two older kids. Save my strength for the up coming weekend push.
January 18th
Logo Electrical is running behind due to the weather. Suppose to start Wednesday, then Thursday now tomorrow. Work will have me traveling soon so I took the morning off to get the building permit. After a pretty smooth 2-1/2 hours permit acquired! Good news. Meet Mike the plumber at house to discuss plumbing options. The Pex seems viable but some possible $ issues with how the two bathrooms were vented back in 1950's.
After work Bill starts demo of front bedroom and finishes middle bedroom. The wonky return air bump is no more. I install the locks on the garage cabinets. Decide to push my way into stuck attic access in garage to see if any junk in attic is worth anything before electricians get up there. Nope, just trash.
Bad news. While looking at the trash in attic I notice the framing is different over the garage / kitchen / dining room than it looks like from the hallway attic access across the house. Now planned walls that were previously non-load bearing appear to be load bearing. Irritating but not insurmountable. Just more time and materials. Biggest hassle is now permit, not yet 1 day old, will have to be modified ( again with just more time, a morning, and materials, additional fees.)
January 17th
Order the new replacement dumpster on the way to work. At lunch buy cabinet door locks for new garage cabinets. Too many future subs walking around garage when I'm not there. After work a three some of Dad, Bill and I start the fill in the dumpster. It was a "Snow Day" so kids are out of school and it is cold and rainy and not the kind of weather to play pack the dumpster but it had to be done. 30 yard dumpster is beyond full and ready to be dumped. West Kitchen cabinets and all the Kitchen walls are demo'd.
Going to try for the building permit tomorrow. Stay up till 2:00+ finishing drawings, printing out three sets (2 for city + 1 for me).
January 15th
Company gives me Martin Luther King day off! I'll skip the two competing parades this year (I saw the last eight years in a row) and work on the house. Dad and I start early tearing into gyp. I continue on the master bath walls and get them all down. After master walls the hall bath tile walls are next to go. Dad and I rented a chipping / demolition hammer to jack up the tile floors and mud beds. As usual Home Depots tool rentals are awful! Super dull bits and a broken on / off switch. Dad and I take turns plugging in hammer while the other holds on and then signaling when to unplug when you need to stop. The only good thing about Home Depot tool rentals is the 10:00 p.m. rental returns.
The hammer is heavy but works, eventually, on the floors. POS hammer breaks, bad brushes in motor, with less than 10 minutes left to hammer. Load hammer, return hammer, have slim knowledge skeptical teen rental agent give you the once over until she to admits the motors just not working. Get new hammer, load it, drive, unload, 10 minutes worth of chipping, load, drive, unload, return. A lot of work but now it's done. So are Dad and I. Good night.

Spent a couple hours of daylight after church acquiring materials and tools.
Dumpster is getting a little past half full. Majority of gyp is down in the front public parts of the house. Moving into the back bedrooms / closets and bathrooms. Took down master vanity and a wall and a half of tile. Realized that I need to wear my steel toe boots during tile demo when large heavy chunk misses little piggy toes in tennis shoes by a narrow margin.

Keri met Mr. Brick at lunch at house to discuss the masonry jobs (fill in windows and doors, cut in new windows and door) No problem for Mr. Brick. Quote due on Monday.
Called to get estimate from Starfish roofing. Roof quote good but discussions led to consideration of replacing existing fascia prior to new roof install.
After kids put down to sleep removed remaining west and north wall paneling and gyp from Office.
Removed lay-in ceiling from Office ceiling.
Removed plywood pantry.
Removed gyp from east and south walls of original utility room.

During the day Andy was on site with the foundation crew removing the masonite from floor and pulling all nails. Too many and too diverse nails used to attach masonite. Was a hard bad job.
After Tee Ball practice at 5:30 and dinner the Bill, Keri and I mobilized at the house.
Bill removed gyp in dining room and Living room.
Keri and I measured and taped out the kitchen cabinets, new windows and new doors.

Killing time before closing at 2:00 Keri and I went to Home Depot and bought matching keyed locksets w/ deadbolts.Closed on the house at 2:00. Chang nor his realator showed up.Left the title company at 3:30.Went by the storage shed and got tools and beginings of the house occupation.Changed out the front and back door locks.Changed out the old (ours) back door lock with the lockset of the old office to secure tools from subs.Dad, Bill, Keri and I removed all carpet in the house.Bill trimmed bushes and trees in the front yard.Did exploratory demo of vinyl flooring in kitchen and found plywood - good for us.Did exploratory demo of vinyl flooring in Den and found vinyl was adhereed to masonite nailed to the hardwoods below - good for us.Did exploratory demo of vinyl flooring in Entry and found hardwoods - good for us.When carpet removed found the outline and plywood fillers in the floor of older 3 bedroom configuration.
